Burley received his DCM for brave endeavours under fire during the Battle of Aubers Ridge (1915), he also fought during the Battle of the Somme (1916) and when Armistice was declared he was a POW in Friedrichsfeld camp, near Cologne, (est. £700-1,000 +fees).
